Outside of the obvious (Your art/product). Here are some things as a creative you should be creating.

CREATE A BLUEPRINT

Every idea you have in your mind. Every thought that has the potential to become tangible write it down. Even if it doesn’t make sense. Ideas are all around you. Everyday. Everything around you is a puzzle piece. Pick the pieces and create your blueprint. Do it on some Kevin McCallister from Home Alone shit. Without a blueprint you’re not dangerous. You’re just another person in the way.

CREATE A SPOT IN A COMMUNITY

What creatives underrate is the power of community. The community doesn’t even have to be where you’re living. You can search a hashtag on Instagram and start talking to other creatives. Of course when they see you comment they’ll go to your page to check your temperature and see your work. If they respond then that’s dope because now you can create further rapport. You communicate with like minded people and you can help each other. Fuck spamming celebrities or whoever you feel is “on.” The real MVP’s are in the community you create a spot in. They could be standing right next to you. Network side to side. Not up.

CREATE YOUR MOVEMENT

Once you’re in a community you start to build your squadron. Just create with your peers and actually show them the blueprint you created. Show your work and the discipline you put in. People gravitate towards a person who not out here playing and actually have a plan and show up when it’s time to put in work. You can even do what I did and recruit your friends who aren’t in your respective creative community. Doing shit alone is overrated and doesn’t make your work any better and no one is going to give you kudos for it. Nobody cares. Create your movement like Dipset.

CREATE YOUR OWN LANE

In the creative world there’s traffic jams everywhere. But if you observe hard enough you’ll always find an express lane. Even though it’s express you still have to have patience to reach your goals but people will find you faster because you’re not doing what everyone else is doing. You stand out which makes you interesting and will make people inquire about what you do. Create your own lane and consistently cruise.

CREATE CONVERSATION

Once you’ve created your lane it’s time to create conversation. Create your own press. You don’t have to look for platforms to retweet or share your shit. You can give it straight to the consumer. The internet has made it easier than it’s ever been to build a buzz. Just keep creating content and release it on your site and social media. Don’t look at the numbers. The only thing you need to be concerned with is consistency. Just keep releasing work. As time progresses you’ll see that your work is the conversation. You’re creating your own hype and you’re living up to it. Stop begging for support. The biggest support system you have is your art and product because that’s what’s gonna carry your name and dictate if your name holds weight or if your name is light.

CREATE WHAT YOU WANT

Fuck what anyone thinks. What do you want to create? Everything has a demand. Create what the fuck you want then supply it where it’s demanded. Don’t get lost in creating something you don’t want to create but the people want it. You’ll get burnt out quick doing shit like that. There’s two things I’m selfish about. My peace and what I create. I’m not compromising either and neither should you.

CREATE MEANINGFUL SHIT

Always create what you want but make sure it’s meaningful. Translation create something that creates impact. If you have no impact then there’s no value and without value your work just exists but it doesn’t move the needle.

CREATE A CULTURE

Things should remind me of what you create. For example my mix show TreeVilla is synonymous with Trees/Marijuana. Polite Coolery = Titties and champagne. This blog = Comedy/Life lessons. I’ve created a culture around each platform. When people know what they’re getting from your work and your content that leads to further support such as merch or whatever you want to sell from your company. When you create the right culture around your creativity you create trust.

CREATE YOUR OWN CONSTELLATIONS

My step father Pharrell said this. Don’t wait for the stars to align. Create your own constellations. Create your own future.
