Does She Watch Anime For The Trend Or The Love?

This is part one of the subject of women and anime. Part two will be coming soon!

I'm a nerd at heart. Always have been. Always will be. I'll punch the shit out you quick but I'm still a nerd. I'd like to consider myself a versatile human being. My iTunes says it all. One moment it's "Have A Cigar" by Pink Floyd then it's "Paper Tags" by Bankroll Fresh. Prince "Purple Rain" soundtrack to "Toxicity" by System Of A Down. Kamasi Washington to Alessia Cara. I like almost everything. I've caught some hell for my tastes growing up because I grew up in a era where being a gangsta was everything. I like to call this "The Death Row Effect" basically named after the greatest record label musically I've ever seen in hip hop. You were supposed to only enjoy beating people the fuck up, cleaning your pistols, just being hard (pause) all day. The time I was in high school I did normal shit a black teenager did. Play sports. Play video games. Go to the teenager clubs. Chase girls. Lie about fucking girls to impress the homies. Sneak out the crib to kick it. The essentials. If you even MENTIONED anime, manga's, or comics, pussy would run away from you. It was weird and ruthless. I even got made fun of by some of my friends for listening to N.E.R.D. Pharrell wasn't cool then because Pharrell wasn't a tough guy. He was a weirdo in trucker hats. If you watched anime the majority of the girls labeled you a immature lame. It's sort of the same today but not as bad. Allow me to explain.

There were only 2 types of women that watched anime when I came up. The hood girls and the outcasted white girls that were considered goth and emo. The hood chicks would always talk about Dragonball Z. Nothing else. Occasionally Sailor Moon but mainly Dragonball Z. Toonami on Cartoon Network had a lot to do with that and the fact that when we were even younger Dragonball Z used to come on Channel 11 and some of us didn't have cable so that's something we could watch. When you don't have cable you watching whatever. The White girls watched the same things but they would read the manga's, buy merchandise, just dive deeper into it. Today we are in the "Tumblr Era" where EVERY FUCKING THING IS ARTSY, VINTAGE, LOOK AT ME THIS IS WEIRD FASHION I'M WEARING, I'M AWKWARD, SELFIES WITH THE PEACE SIGN OVER YOUR EYES, NAPPY HAIR, AND EVERYONE HAS A DSLR CAMERA TAKING HIGH SATURATED SHITTY PHOTOS OF TRASH CANS IN NEW YORK CITY and anime got sucked into that hipster realm. Anime is now the "IN" thing cause it's considered weird and weird is cool. Every one loves "AKIRA" now but If you ask them what's the plot and you'll hear a mime rapping "Fuck up some commas" by Future with crickets doing the ad-libs. It's because they've fallen asleep 20 minutes into watching it. They don't really have a desire to watch it. I've seen women I know personally flat out lie about watching anime for years. It's become almost like an accessory to some women today. It's the in thing so they have to let everyone know that they're the biggest anime fans to add to their mystique they've been trying to portray. Faking the funk. Men do this shit too but from my experience I've been seeing a lot more women do this. It might be the opposite for someone else. You never know.

I'm not saying that you can't be a anime late bloomer and not love it. I know plenty of women who never watched anime until it got popular within the cool culture. The difference is that they actually admit it. They never gave it a shot. They judged the material and the fans before seeing it. They watch some Attack On Titan and then admit they were sleeping on it. It leads them to go back and watch classic anime or find some more current shit and completely fall in love with it. I just don't like when honey's only watching it because it's popular but talk like they're guru's, out here fronting and shit. I'll even go as far to say some women today say they watch anime because they think it makes them look cuter. I cant front it does but it makes them look better if they go into detail about what they're watching. I seen a beautiful black woman on twitter last week tweet in detail about "One Piece" and the "Impel Down Arc" and my heart damn near leaped out my chest. You can tell if someone real or posing.  I guarantee there's some chick in this country that's bought a bunch of manga's for a infamous Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr room shoot and has no intentions of ever reading them. Just in there for decor. I'm not saying you can't use Manga for decor on your bookshelves because manga's really do look cool. I just think it's weak if you don't admit it and pretend you're reading them. You're missing out on some epic shit lady!
