8 GOOD BUSINESS HABITS FOR CREATIVES
It's 3 parts to the story like I told you. Here are some good business habits for you cool ass creatives out there. Feel me?
INTRODUCTION
Introduce yourself. Don’t be a weird ass creep and wait until you back home and DM or inbox someone that you seen them out and didn’t speak. If you scared to approach a person you want to do business with in person then are you willing to take any risk when you collaborate with that person? You don’t even have to talk business right away. Just compliment the person on what they’re known for and go from there. I mean who doesn’t like to talk about what they love and what they’re good at and known for?
PITCH THAT SHIT
You should be able to tell a person what the fuck you do and why you do it in a couple of sentences. If you cannot then you don’t know what the fuck you doing. Go to any person who runs a successful company I’ll bet any money they can sum up what they do with just a few words. I don’t need the person who explain to me what they do in form of a novel. I need the person who can explain shit in under 25 seconds because that’s the person that will make moves and not fuck around. They value time. I don’t care if you write it down and rehearse your pitch and it sounds like you memorized it as long as you get to the point quickly then you good. Always have a pitch prepared because you never know who you’ll run into.
YOU GOT CARDS GAMBIT ASS BOY?
I not opposed to business cards. Some people actually keep em and utilize em. Some people use them as filters for the smoke sessions. If you have enough common sense you’ll know who to give them to and when to cuff em. Now if you doing big business then yup have them bitches on deck and they work if you’re in a hurry and can’t really stop for conversation. Only thing that matters on them is your email and your site that will have all your social media handles on em. They don’t need to be decked out. It’s just a card nobody trip off that shit. They trip off what you have to offer. Which is your product. I’ve gotten every type of business card imaginable and never have I said “OH MY GOD THIS CARD LIT AND I DEFINITELY WANNA LINK BECAUSE OF THIS DESIGN!!!!!!” Fuck the bells and whistles. That’s where niggas fuck up at. You wasting time caring about designs and shit. Just get some simple cards and keep em on deck.
DON’T FUCKING TEXT ME
Bruh if you try to do business strictly through text messages, DM’s, etc you are a fucking doofus to me. A straight fucking simpleton. Now if it’s some quick shit where it won’t involve more than 3 texts then cool I can do that but niggas be trying to have whole fucking threads that take up my phone memory and shit. Nigga use your damn email, fuck is wrong with you? Also respond to emails as fast as you can. Check your email 3 times a day. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner so you won’t miss anything important. I’m not as good as I want to be in responding to emails because my attention gets diverted so easily but I’ve definitely gotten better and you should be better too. Everything is speed when it comes to business. The turnaround matters. Let muhfuckas know you not fucking playing around and you serious. This goes for social media too. Interact with everyone that @’s you (Positive @’s of course). Don’t try to portray yourself as that “I’m too good to respond to shit bozo. Interaction is vital.
FOLLOW UP
If you made a proposition on some business then there’s no harm in following up on something if you get no response. I’m not saying hound people but follow up and check in on it. It shows that you have legitimate interest.
YOU’RE FUCKING WELCOME
You’ll be surprised at how many people don’t say thank you. If you worked together with someone and did business with them no matter the outcome say thank you. Please do this. Be grateful no matter what. It does wonders for your reputation and would entice people to work with you again.
BE HONEST LIL HOE
If you don’t wanna collaborate with someone then say it. You don’t have to be a dickhead about it. If you feel if that’s not something you wanna do for your brand then be upfront and honest about that decision. Don’t leave people hanging by not responding back. Don’t be afraid to say no. It’s your life. Don’t be apart of something half heartedly or you not feeling. Now if you were cordial about it and they still take it personal well fuck em that’s their problem. They’re sensitive. A G thanks that person for their time and move on with their idea.
ARRIVE……EARLY
Highkey I hate people who always late to shit or wanna do that fashionably late shit. Bitch this business. This big bucks no whammies. Grow the fuck up. I don’t give a fuck about a fit, makeup, none of that silly shit. If you’re gonna be late make it known ahead of time so people can be fully prepared for that. It seriously drives me up a fucking wall that people are late for some shit that they’re apart of and don’t say shit. It’s like Chris from The Wire taught Michael. “Get there early."
I'm not saying you gotta be a stuck up ass nigga and wear suits all the time and shit like that. I hate suits bruh. But a problem I see in our community is that we bypass professionalism. You can be yourself and you don't have to change your personality. You can still be goofy, loud, outgoing, quiet, and still have great professionalism. It brings you more results. See some people would rather look good and lose rather than look bad and win. What I mean is that people worry about every detail of their image except professionalism. As long as they have fire photo shoots and they look good or have a "aesthetic" they think that's it. They have the looks of a creative company but always fall short when it comes to professionalism. Long story short. Handle your fucking business so you can eat off your creativity.
