CREATING DURING THE RONA

CREATING DURING THE RONA

You don’t have to create shit. Don’t let these artsy mothafuckas make you feel like you’re worthless because you’re not creating anything while staying in your home during a pandemic. I’m creating through it because this was what I was doing before this rona shit. I stayed at home and only left if it was absolutely necessary. All I do is create things at home. I’ve done YouTube videos, written things, brainstormed. I’m good through all of this.

I’m a let you in on a secret. The people throwing shade at you for not creating during this time ain’t creating shit either. It’s a myth. Only a small percentage are. Those people are nothing special. They’re just like everyone else. Binging shows and eating terribly. Just imagine how much unhealthy weight has been gained from stress and junk. Spending ungodly amounts of time on social media. This is what it is now. Everyone’s idea of normalcy has been taken from them.

It’s like asking certain artists who do bids in prison and the media ask them about writing in prison and some artists tell them they didn’t write in prison because it was impossible for them to create under those conditions. They just focused on surviving and getting through their time.  Some people have no income coming in so the last thing on their mind is painting or photography.

Creativity isn’t just some switch you turn on whenever you feel like it. There has to be some type of continuity with yourself. There has to be some sort of flow. You still have to do the right things that are healthy to your mind. If the switch existed then I wouldn’t need to write this. People are now learning that “FOCUS” is an actual skill and different type of discipline. It’s a muscle. If you haven’t focused since the year started  when you had freedom then I doubt you’re going to focus during a global crisis. It’s like an addict quitting a drug cold turkey. Their body is dependent on a substance they can’t just say I quit drugs and go home. They have to go to the hospital and detox. Everyone is used to things being open and freedom so when those things they depended on aren’t open they’re going to lose their mind. They’re not going to know what to do with themselves. Working on your craft sounds good until you don’t have any option but to work on it. It’s a conversation that some people will avoid during this time because they’re trying to find ways to fight their boredom but it’s a conversation they need to have with themselves because it will make them better moving forward.

There’s nothing wrong with not being able to focus during this. But you have to start somewhere. Train yourself on how to focus. Start small by focusing on one thing everyday. It will eventually grow from there. A lot of us were just handed time when we were so used to being on someone else’s time and it’s throwing everyone off.  Basically 9-12 hours that were normally spent on things outside of ourselves is now in our possession out of nowhere. Some people are even feeling guilt during this because they feel like they’re not doing anything and they’re so used to being busy or on the go. There’s a lot of emotions, fears, thoughts, and feelings during this time but my advice is ….. BE STILL. Being still is a lost art.

This is a time for healing. I rather you not create anything and just focus on your health in all aspects and then when this situation is manageable and you’re back outside you’re creating things better than you ever have because you’re cleansed and truly the best version of yourself you’ve ever been. You took this time to heal instead of forcing creativity out of yourself to appease to people who aren’t even a part of your story. Everything is long term. I say it a lot but it’s true. Sometimes it takes a while for you to get where you want or to get what you want. The feeling you have today may not be the feeling you have in the future.

Now is the time for knowledge of self and the knowledge towards what you want to pursue. What do you want to learn? Youtube something you always wanted to learn. Not saying watch hours upon hours of it just one video about something you wanted to learn. I’m also not saying you have to start a Fortune 500 company in your living room. If you don’t have the spirit for creating during this time this is what I want you to do.

First write down why you’re not feeling it. I know the answer is obvious but it’s different if you discuss it with yourself and read it back to yourself. Don’t just stop at the pandemic. Dig deeper and be honest about why you weren’t feeling the urge to create anything before the pandemic too.

Next write or type every idea in your head. Regardless if you think it’s a good, bad, or uncertain idea. If you have a story in your head that would make a great film, show, or novel in your opinion write it down. A business you would like to start? Write it down. A company you think you would like to work for? Write it down. Write down a hobby that you’re curious about. Write down places you would like to go. It doesn’t have to just be work and creativity. You’re human. Don’t forget to write down the why for all of this either because the “why” is what sparks your movement towards these things. If understand why you want things you’re clearing the path for yourself towards the things you’re asking for and then you’ll truly know if that’s what you desire.

Your worth is not measured by what you create. Your worth is not measured by the work you did for a company. Take care of you first and don’t let no one push you to create anything during this time. Get some rest. Focus on your physical and mental health and stay safe.

Peace
